Moongirl
Moongirl Headed by independent designer Karen Lechelt, Moongirl is returning to the Asian Heritage Street Celebration for the second year. She offers two lines of t-shirts, Moongirl for girls and Handsome Tigers for guys. She said she is returning to the Celebration because she had a great time, met fantastic people and sold lots of tees. "The crowd was just excited to be there as we were and [they] showed us lots of love," Lechelt said.
She said though most people simplify her artwork as being "Asian," they are much more than that. "They are about the things I see, think, feel and dream of [and] they reflect my life and my perspective," said Lechelt. "So sometimes they are silly, funny, sad, lonely, but always so damn cute!"
Jerry Tang San Francisco resident Jerry Tang has been missing
for more than five months. Family members of Tang are currently working
with the National Center for Missing Adults (NCMA) in undertaking appropriate
search efforts for a missing adult. NCMA is established by the US federal
government under H. R. 2103 which authorizes the Attorney General to provide
grants for organizations to find missing adults. In addition to the family's
display boards showing that Jerry Tang is still missing, NCMA will be
providing posters and information sheets to be displayed at the street
fair. Several members of the Tang family will also be present.
California Transplant Donor Network
The California Transplant Donor Network saves and
improves lives by facilitating organ and tissue donation for transplantation.
The Transplant Network helps 160 hospitals in 40 Northern and Central
California and Northern Nevada counties offer the option of organ and
tissue donation to families whose loved ones have died, coordinates deceased
organ recovery and placement, and provides public education with the hope
that every resident will become a donor. Across the nation, there are
more than 5000 Asians are waiting for life-saving organ transplant and
about 3000 of them live in California.
"This fair gives us a wonderful opportunity to send our messages to many Asians who live in the San Francisco Sunset District and educate them the importance of organ and tissue donation," said Toby K. Cheung, Community Outreach Coordinator. "We would also like to encourage more Asians to have open communication with their family members and hope that organ donation will become a common topic across all generations."
